The Last Inklings create music that inspires wonder and intrigue through original songwriting. Their innovative sound focuses on cello, mandolin, and violin layered with vocal harmony. With vibrant backstories and creative musicianship their songs have a modern flavour, rich with imagery and narrative. This musical duo is formed of multi-instrumentalists David Hoyland and Leonardo MacKenzie (also of the Ninebarrow Band). As former members of the acclaimed folk trio Kadia, they are rapidly growing a reputation for their live performances. Their songs are largely inspired by modern myths and superstitions with a wide range of inspirations including Carl Jung, Neil Gaiman, Alfred Hitchcock, and Edgar Allen Poe. With songs about people, creatures, landscapes, and legends, all firmly rooted in the realm of storytelling, the music is rich with intriguing ideas and creative concepts. The Last Inklings derive their name from an old Oxford literary group whose former members included JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis. Having previously played main stages at Cambridge, Oxford, Broadstairs, Southwell, Priddy, Swanage, and Purbeck Valley Festivals, they have also had the pleasure of supporting artists such as Nancy Kerr, Jackie Oates, Jim Moray, Chris Leslie, Gilmore and Roberts, The Willows, Nizlopi, and Ninebarrow among many more.
