Fusing the folk and urban traditions of her Zambian homeland and her Scottish roots with London’s eclectic music scene, Namvula blends African sounds and rhythms with Latin, jazz and folk into uplifting and emotive songs, transporting listeners into different worlds, whilst staying firmly rooted in African soil.
The rapidly rising singer and songwriter was named by DJ Ritu (BBC / A World in London) as “one of the most promising newcomers this year”, and has been delighting audiences at intimate venues and festival stages alike across the UK with her dynamic live show, described as “absolutely fantastic – lively and life-affirming” and “vibrant – a cultural pleasure” by listeners. She is touring with her stellar band comprising of some of the UK’s most respected African, jazz and folk musicians: bassist Liran Donin (Mercury-nominated Led Bib), guitarist Jack Ross (Lucy Ward / Cerys Matthews), percussionist Mamadou Sarr (Baaba Maal), and saxophonist Chris Williams (Led Bib).
Namvula will be touring material from her forthcoming debut album, Shiwezwa, which has been tipped to be “one of the major roots releases of the coming months” by fRoots magazine.
This tour has been made possible through the generous support of the PRS for Music Foundation
