Purbeck Film Festival

7.30pm - Square & Compass, Worth Matravers - £6.00
Charlie Newman’s Desert Island Flick

BERT RIGBY - YOU’RE A FOOL (R) - Starring Cathryn Bradshaw (Mrs Charlie Newman)

Bert Rigby has just ‘gotta dance’ - and sing - even though he lives in the less than glamorous Northern town of Langmore and spends most of his time working the coal face at the local mine. He’s a good hearted, old fashioned sort of guy who longs for the glamour and romance of the Hollywood musicals he loves. When he wins a local talent contest his dream of being a full time entertainer begins to come true although perhaps not in the way he had imagined!. - (Carl Reiner, USA, 1989, 94 mins)

Tickets from The Square & Compass or ring 01929 439229. Bar available! Purbeck Ice Creams.
Advance booking recommended.

Part of Purbeck Film Festival - the longest running rural film festival in UK and is now in its 18th year.

Each year the Festival makes a selection of the films that we think our audience will like, and gives around 70 performances in the last two weeks of October in venues throughout Purbeck, as well as at Lighthouse in Poole and, new for this year, at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth. The main cinema is the Rex in Wareham, but we also show films at local village halls and unusual venues all over the place - wherever in fact we can find a 13amp plug and an enthusiastic local organiser.

Each of the wide range of films is personally introduced with printed Film Notes, and where possible, film makers are invited to give talks about their films and answer questions from the audience. We publish a printed brochure with full details of our October programme which is available at the start of September, and tickets are available at venues, Tourist Information Centres and on this website. We also screen films on behalf of other local festivals, PAW for example, as well as putting on Open Air films in August at Corfe Castle, Studland and occasionally have a drive-in movie. We can put on a show at special request - get in touch for details and costs.
