Grizzly & the Grasshoppers
Grizzly & the Grasshoppers are a folk, roots and blues band based in the south east UK. They feature; Rhys “Grizzly” Morgan (vocals, lap-slide guitar, dobro and djembe); Neil Shervell (drums); and Matt Brace (bass). In a short time, the band have showcased their sound alongside the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Toploader and 10cc, and have played scores of festivals of the last two summers.
The band have already built a loyal following across the south of England, and their success is down to their foot-tapping, head-nodding, bluesy roots grooves – whether playing a dark and dirty tavern or a packed and muddy festival tent, they draw people in with their energy and original style – their three-way drum-offs put rhythm in every pair of feet.
The Grizzly sound has evidence of the fast energetic & up tempo pace of the John Butler Trio, the blue gnarl of John Martin, the Americana harmonies of Union Station and a touch of Paul Simon’s backing band to boot. Their self-released début album, ‘Seeds’, was finished in early 2014, and a follow up album 'Whiskey River' is in the pipeline.
"It’s not easy to create a unique sound these days – everything has already been done - but the Grizzlies really have created something very different. It’s engaging in a way that is rarely found in music and the playing comes directly from the souls of these guys, who obviously love what they do. We booked them for Weyfest 2012 and they drew quite an audience away from the other stages. A must see!" ~ Ali Edwards - Director - Weyfest 2012
"Never have three musicians looked so happy to be playing and telling their stories. To see this band live was the happiest coincidence I have ever witnessed" ~ Louise Egan
