The Third Policeman - A Surreal Comic Adventure This summer Cornwall’s Miracle Theatre ventures into a world somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and Father Ted, where the earth is not round but sausage-shaped; where eccentric policemen fall in love with bicycles and you can visit eternity via a rickety lift, hidden beside a lane in the heart of rural Ireland. With its hilarious characters, streaks of dark humour and unforgettable plot twist, The Third Policeman earned its author, Flann O’Brien, a world-wide reputation as one of Ireland’s great comic geniuses. O’Brien’s scorching wit and delicious turn of phrase, combined with Miracle’s delight in physical comedy and absurdity, has to be a winning combination. Fans of this cult classic and newcomers alike should expect the unexpected! Flann O’Brien was born in 1912. His life, like his writing, was as tragic as it was comic: comic in that the handful of books that he produced are ranked by some (including Graham Greene and Dylan Thomas) as some of the most brilliant humour ever written; tragic in that heavy drinking incapacitated him and shortened his life. Tickets: £12.50 - available now from the Pub Miracle Theatre Company In summer, Miracle pops-up in unexpected places: on beaches and cliff tops and in amphitheatres, gardens, castles. The rest of the year, its fine-tuned flexibility enables it to adapt to venues of all shapes and sizes – from village halls to grand theatres! Miracle’s projects are collaborative, bringing together artists, actors, musicians, writers and makers from around Cornwall to create work with a unique offbeat style, a joyful use of language and an immediate visual appeal. It skilfully integrates the very latest technology with traditional storytelling to bring together audiences of all ages across the South West and beyond.
